Spices May Be Key To Green Pesticides
At the recent American Chemical Society’s 238th National Meeting, a group of scientists presented research that suggests spices may hold the key to eco-friendly pesticides.
The lead presenter, Murray Isman, PhD, revealed that findings indicate the some spices may be an effective pesticide, saying, “We are exploring the potential use of natural pesticides based on plant essential oils—commonly used in foods and beverages as flavorings.”
Rosemary, thyme, clove and mint were the specific “essential oil pesticides” spices mentioned.
