While it seems like a most  unlikely source, Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has apparently launched an eco-friendly reusable garment bag.

Teaming up with The Green Garmento, The Situation has created a reusable garment bag, dubbed the GTL, named for Sorrentino’s infamous “gym, tan, laundry” mantra.

The reusable bag can be purchased for a mere $12 and even features carbon-balanced shipping if you purchase the bag online.

Here’s the good news, American apparel company Ralph Lauren is going green with solar paneled backpacks.  The bad news?  They’re $800, but if you can afford them, they’re a great buy.

Eco-conscious designer Stella McCartney has made headlines recently with the launch of her newest project, a green kids apparel collection.

The Stella McCartney Kids Spring-Summer 2011 collection was launched just Wednesday and is already turning heads.  The collection features 100% organic cotton clothing and shoes made from natural and sustainable cork.

Speaking of her new collection, McCartney reveals, “Building from the basics of the launch collection, I wanted to use prints that would appeal to kids, such as animals, rainbows, and nature..”

“The whole idea was to make clothes that kids will enjoy; and that are not restrictive. To allow girls to be girly and pretty, but still have fun and mix in some tomboy unisex pieces.”

A percentage of the proceeds from the collection will go to McCartney’s family charity, the Meat-Free Monday campaign which aims to persuade people to be vegetarian at least once a week to lessen the environmental effect of the meat industry.

At the 83rd Academy Awards, actor Colin Firth not only stole the show with accolades for his The King’s Speech performance but for his eco-friendly attire.

As always, Firth and his wife Livia donned environment-friendly outfits at the Oscars and this year they did it up recycled style in order to raise awareness for recycled fashion.

Livia, who founded Fairtrade boutique Eco Age, wore an amazing paneled gown recycled from old dresses on the red carpet while Colin made a Tom Ford suit made of ethical materials look better than good!

“It defies what you normally see on the red carpet. It’s really beautiful – it’s pretty but also has a message,” said Livia.

Kangol caps has a new and more eco-friendly collection coming to heads near you.

The new SS11 Collection will feature bamboo fiber materials creatively and may we say elegantly used to create the Kangol styles we’ve all grown to love.

Bamboo is of course a leading eco-friendly option for materials since it is the fastest growing plant on earth, with some varieties growing 80 feet in 4 weeks.

Kangol have also put careful consideration into their manufacturing techniques. Due to new regulations the term bamboo can only be used to describe textile fibers taken directly from the bamboo plant, without using the chemical processes to make rayon. Kangol’s bamboo collection has been tested and can lawfully be labelled bamboo, therefore it’s manufacture lacks the chemical processes previously associated with bamboo garments and hence is more environmentally friendly.

As a 2011 follow-up to last year’s Garden Collection, H&M clothing warehouse is now launching a new sustainable apparel line for women, men and children.

The new Conscious Collection will feature organic cotton, organic linen, Tencel® and recycled polyester, all in differing shades of white.

Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M head of design, revealed, “The possibilities for creating a complete fashion statement with eco smarter materials are huge now. By designing recurring Conscious Collections we have the opportunity to show in a variety of ways what’s possible using more sustainable fabrics.”

Conscious Collection will hit stores April 14th, where we’ll all hopefully be welcoming in some warmer weather!

Yarn producer Unifi is teaming up with Cintas Corp. to create a new eco-friendly scrubs line at long last.

Made from recycled materials, the “EcoGeneration by Cintas” line will feature Unifi’s Repreve recycled fibers.

According to a Cintas rep, this eco-friendly scrubs line is a long time coming, saying, “Cintas believes that quality eco-apparel should benefit the environment but not compromise comfort.”

“This scrub line gives health care workers the satisfaction of knowing they’re doing something that benefits the environment, while meeting their fit and comfort needs.”

This is great news for the scrubs community and we can’t wait to see if this new line takes off!
