Tentatively named “Stephanie’s” the new chain would take advantage of green technology such as grass parking lots, rooftop garden areas, home delivery via electric cars and biodegradable cutlery.

The menu would of course feature healthier options compared with the Big Mac like “pork-and-sweet-potato kabobs, apple-cinnamon steel-cut oats and smoked-chicken sweet pea soup.”

The former McD’s gang hopes to open the first Stephanie’s in 2011.

Even with the 2012 World Cup games currently going on, countries are already lining up to bid for the 2022 games.

The country of Qatar has officially placed their bid for the 2022 World Cup, citing their new solar powered stadiums as one of the many reasons for their country to host the worldwide soccer competition.

Eleven countries submitted bids for the 21st and 22nd World Cup, and the Qatar bid, which we saw over at Designboom this morning, is the first ever from a Middle Eastern country. If they win the bid, Qatar would build three brand new stadiums and update two existing ones in order to host the games.

Five separate stadiums will be used for the 2010 World Cup and they all strove to be environmentally-friendly.

The new stadiums were built with solar power capabilities; are flexible enough to be used for other events in the future; and one even has a rainwater collection system. While the older stadiums aren’t equipped with solar panels or anything high-tech, they’re age helps make them environmentally friendly. Rather than tearing down perfectly good, usable stadiums, opting to use preexisting structures is definitely a responsible choice. Finally, the remodeled stadium lets in daylight through its roof, and retains much of the elements of the previous structure.

The Italian label will now forgo the usual plastic laminate surfaces found in their tissue paper, bags and boxes. The ribbon and garment bags have been switched to cotton from the original polyester material.

They will be packing their shoes in one flannel instead of two. They will also give out gift boxes only when requested.

Also, Gucci is replacing all of its mannequins with a new version, designed by Frida Giannini, which is made with shockproof polystyrene and finished with water-based paints.

Creative director Frida Giannini was quoted by vogue.co.uk as saying, “This project proves hat you sacrifice nothing creatively when working with environmentally friendly materials.”

Wow!  Hopefully Gucci’s new green steps will encourage other luxury brands to follow suit!

Nestle is looking into their suppliers after growing scrutiny by eco-friendly groups have pointed their fingers at palm oil for causing gross deforestation and wildlife destruction.

Nestle said in a statement on Monday that The Forest Trust, a charity that looks to halt illegal logging by tracing consumer products to their source, has already helped the maker of Kit Kat bars formulate guidelines for palm oil purchases.

These involve commitments to preserve carbon-rich peatlands in Indonesia and Malaysia, where much of palm oil plantation expansion takes place, as well as support local and indigenous communities.

The food giant also plans to provide technical support for palm oil suppliers that are willing to adhere to its palm eco-standards.

Using environmental health, air quality, water resource management, biodiversity and habitat, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, and climate change on a point system, Iceland is the only country to receive more than 90 points this year.  Switzerland came in second, with Costa Rica, Sweden and Norway following close behind.

If it tells you anything, the States didn’t rank anywhere near the 1oth highest nations, sadly enough.

BP has been working hard to show their green side by investing in various eco-friendly pursuits, although after this Gulf situation we’re not sure how people will end up feeling about the oil giant.
