Eco-Friendly Memorial Day Weekend Tips

Whether you’re taking it easy this Memorial Day holiday weekend or you’re planning on having a BBQ, we have the best tips to keep the days green!

Memorial Day weekend is the perfect time for getting together with family and friends. It means that summer is on its way, the kids are getting ready to finish school, and neighborhood pools are officially opening.

  1. If you’re planning on cutting the grass, make sure you’re using an electric mower, it’s easier on your back and on your carbon footprint.
  2. Clean up the patio furniture with eco-friendly products instead of using the chemical-ridden kinds.
  3. To keep bugs and those pesky mosquitoes away, try using a cup of sugar water at the edge of the party instead of sprays and candles.
  4. Make sure to use biodegradable utensils, bowls, and cups that create much less waste in your local landfill.
  5. Keep a recycling and compost bins handy and let your guests know where they’re located.
  6. Maybe try using cloth napkins this year that can be reused over and over again.
  7. Use biodegradable trash bags to clean up any leftover trash.
  8. How about letting your guests leave with the leftovers so that no food gets thrown away?
  9. Clean up the grill with just soap and water and throw those chemical cleaners out!
  10. Put everything else in the compost and start planning for next year’s event!
